The project comprised the redevelopment of the existing centre to include the linking of the ground floor waiting and medical records areas to create a large open plan reception and museum space. This required openings to be formed in the loadbearing wall between the waiting and records area. A glazed extension was provided to the existing main reception .

At first floor level a further open plan exhibition area was linked to the ground floor by a new lift. The new lift shaft was installed to cut through the existing insitu RC first floor slab. The size of the opening required the installation of new steel trimmers spanning between the external wall and the central spine beam.
