The upgrading of Thornton Leisure Centre included:
- Redevelopment of two of the existing three sports halls into an extreme sports facility for wheeled sports and an eight lane ten pin bowling facility.
- Provision of a large health and fitness facility with dance studio.
- Provision of new changing rooms, reception and cafe.
- Installation of two new outdoor artificial five-a-side sports pitches.
- Refurbishment of the existing facilities and facade upgrade.
