Duke Street
Residential Development Manchester

A £6.5m seven-storey reinforced concrete framed building provides around sixty apartments with basement car parking. The development is within Castlefield Conservation Area close to Manchester City Centre. Development at the confined city centre site was constrained by public highways on three sides and an existing historic building on the fourth.

The superstructure comprises a series of reinforced concrete flat slabs supported on isolated columns and walls designed using finite element analysis. A confined site and complex residential unit layout necessitates the need for a reinforced concrete transfer structure at ground floor level to allow transition between residential and parking layouts.
This multi-storey reinforced concrete faced building provides six storeys of high quality residential apartments above a split level basement car park.

TRP Consulting undertook full consultancy structural engineering services for the project including basement design, foundations and superstructure. A reinforced concrete frame with concrete party walls between units was adopted to provide the maximum acoustic insulation required by the client for the high quality apartments.
